1. Access to your own website.
You’ll need to create a new page! And, depending on the type of goal you’re creating, you may need to make a change to your contact form.
2. Access to your email marketing platform.
As part of this process, we’re actually going to make the signup experience nicer!
3. Access to your Google Analytics account.
This is where you’ll create the conversion goals.
Create a “thank you” page for the action we’re tracking.
This could be a thank you for submitting a contact form. Or it could be a thank you for signing up for an email list. Publish the page and keep the new url handy. It may be something like: https://yourwebsite.com/thank-you
If you are tracking email list signups:
Find the list signup or form in your email marketing dashboard. In the video, I demonstrate on MailChimp, but the concept is the same no matter what you use. Our mission is to send users to the thank you page once they are signed up.
If you are tracking contact form submissions:
Find the contact form settings in your website dashboard. In the video, I demonstrate on Contact Form 7, but the concept is the same no matter what you use. Our mission is to send users to the thank you page once they are signed up.
Create your goal in Google Analytics.
You can create as many as you like. We’ll start by creating a “destination” goal using the url from Step 1 as the destination.
Now, wait for the data to come in! And then use that knowledge to make decisions. Best of luck!
